OnePlus 6T vs OnePlus 6 - Design, Notch & Size Comparison

The OnePlus 6T was announced today, October 29th, 2018. The new model brings some improvement and a slightly new design. The most noticeable thing is in the notch. The notch of the OnePlus 6T is significantly smaller than the OnePlus 6.

OnePlus also mentioned that the chin of the phone is now even smaller, which in my opinion, helps create a more symmetric design, that kind of reminds me of the iPhone X/XS/XR design, and that's a good thing.

OnePlus 6T notch vs OnePlus 6

If we consider the entire notch area, not just the tip width, the OnePlus 6T notch width is approx. 24.1% of the screen size, compared to the OnePlus 6 notch with which is approx. 32.5% of the OP6 screen size. The OnePlus 6T notch is 1.35 times narrower (by approx. 5.7 mm) than the OnePlus 6 notch. Let's say that although that the 6T notch looks small, it's not in the top 10 of phones with the smallest notch like the ZTE Nubia Z18, Vivo Y97/Z3/V11/V11i, Oppo Realme 2 Pro and others. In fact, Vivo and Huawei are known to make phones with very small notches, but OnePlus 6 tries to put its mark with the 6T.

OnePlus 6T and OnePlus 6 side by side

The OnePlus 6T comes in two color variations: Mirror Black and Midnight Black, whether the OnePlus 6 comes in more colors variations: Midnight Black, Mirror Black, Silk White, and Amber Red. I assume that OnePlus will introduce more colors along the way.

When looking at the OP6 and OP6T side by side, I do prefer the 6T design because of those two differences, and it does make it more beautiful in my opinion. That's completely subjective of course, but I think that unless the notch brings with it some useful features to the user, many users will prefer a smaller notch. Now with the on-screen fingerprint reader, there is no need for the face unlock, although some users found it useful.

In terms of sheer dimensions, both the OnePlus 6T and 6 are almost identical in size, with the 6T being 2mm taller, 0.6mm narrower and 0.4mm thicker. The 6T weighs only 8 grams more than the 6 model.

The OnePlus 6T comes with a very slightly larger display, 6.41-inch versus 6.28-inches, but again, nothing to write home about. It has the same resolution of 2280x1080 as the OP6.

So overall, great looking phone with many of the amazing features that made the OnePlus 6 great and with some few improvements, including a larger 3700mAh battery which is always a welcomed feature.
