Huawei Mate 20 X great for gamers text

Huawei Mate 20 X - Powerful Android Smartphone for Gamers

The Huawei Mate 20 X is, according to our phone's database, the phone with the largest display. The Mate 20 X carries an enormous 7.20-inch display, passing the Honor 8X Max and the Honor Note 10 that both have 7.12-inch and 6.95-inch display size respectively.

It doesn't come as a surprise when I saw Huawei comparison the Mate 20 X to the Nintendo Switch in terms of battery life (6.67h vs 3.03h in favor of the Mate 20 X) as it tries to market the device as a better portable gaming device.

Huawei Mate 20 X vs Honor 8X Max and Mi Max 3 side by side

The large display will definitely make this phone appeal for gamers. The phone weighs 232g, which isn't too much considering its size in my opinion. It's also a bit smaller than the previous large-screen king, the Honor 8X Max. To be more accurate, the Huawei Mate 20 X is 1% (0.9 mm / 0.04 in) narrower, 1.7% (3 mm / 0.12 in) shorter and 1.2% (0.1 mm) thicker than the Honor 8X Max. The reason for that is because the Mate 20 X features significantly slimmer bezels. The bezels are also quite symmetrical, which makes the phone looks really nice.

I own the OnePlus 6, so I compared the Mate 20 X vs OnePlus 6 just to get an understanding of its size. My OnePlus 6is 11.7% narrower, 10.8% shorter and 4.9% thinner than the Huawei Mate 20 X. I can still put it in my pants' pocket, but it won't get into small pickets. It's also among these type of phones that you operate with two hands because of their large size. However, people who buy this type of large phablets do it because they want to have a huge display, whether it's for playing high-end games, watching videos, having a more natural tablet-like browsing experience, etc.

The Huawei Mate 9 comes with Android 9.0 Pie, and its equipped with HiSilicon Kirin 980 (7nm) high-end processor, coupled with Mali-G76 MP10 (10 cores) GPU. It comes with 128GB internal storage space and with 6GB of RAM, which means it will answer all the demands of hardcore mobile gamers.

Huawei seems to be the only company who really pushes the mobile phone screen size up the scale, while other companies still try to maintain a screen size lower than 6.5-inches. There is a big room for the Huawei Mate20 X that I think other companies are missing, especially in the gaming industry. Due to the volatile nature of mobile phones, you can't just create a "Nintendo" like a brand for a phone as a gaming machine, as it will be eclipsed by other phones in a short period of time. Mobile console machines like the Nintendo Switch will maintain their hardware specs for a few years to come. I am not saying that Huawei can't release a competitive gaming machine to the Nintendo Switch, well, it just try to do it with the Mate20 X, but there are other things to do to be able to succeed in this market, this includes exclusive titles, which obviously can't be achieved here as all of the games will run on the Android platform, the ability to have compatible accessories that will be supported on future designed of the phone; and many other things that might convince gamers to invest into a single mobile platform.

Well, It doesn't seem to me that Huawei has any plans to go head-to-head versus Nintendo in its own game. However, there are tons of mobile games that users will benefit playing them on a large display. I know that because there are many games that I just wouldn't play on my OnePlus 6 but I do play it on my 9.7-inch iPad tablet. Some games are just uncomfortable to play on a small screen, and even a 6.28-inch screen like the OnePlus 6 one is still relatively small for gaming. The Huawei Mate 20 X is a big jump in terms of screen asset size and it will definitely improve the gaming experience for many Android games out there. The phone comes with a 5000 mAh battery, we should give users a very good battery life overall (although I personally expected a larger battery considering the phone's huge size).

Huawei Mate 20 X notch vs honor 8X max notch

In terms of design, the phone's looks really sleek in my opinion. It has a very small notch at the top of the screen hosting just a selfie camera. This is a good decision considering the target market (gaming) that this device is aimed for. In fact, based on our statistics, the Huawei Mate 20 X has a notch which is approximate 11.79x5.75mm in size (including all protruding parts), which places it in the 8th position in our "Phones with the smallest notch sizes" list as of the time of writing this article (October 18th, 2018).

Some might see the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 as a much cheaper alternative in the same category. The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 features a 6.9-inch display (IPS LCD, not AMOLED as the Mate), it runs a weeker Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor (14mm, not 7mm like the Mate 20 X), it comes with 128GB of space, 6 GB RAM (lower version with 65GB/4GB also exists). Of course, this is a much cheaper phone (~270 EUR vs ~900 EUR) but if you cannot afford a flagship phablet, you might want to take a look at some good cheaper alternatives.

The Huawei Mate20 X is a great device that will appeal to gamers and hardcore Android users whom for them, a 6.0-inch display isn't enough to satisfy their needs. For that, you have this powerful Android device, carrying the latest OS, with beautiful design, large battery, OLED display, one with great ergonomics and more. In fact, the Huawei Mate 20 X is equipped with the World's 1st 7nm Mobile AI chipset which makes AI computer more efficient and smart and further enhanced the user experience.

But if you think this is it, well, it's not. The phone is also powered by what Huawei calls "GPU Turbo 2.0" technology, a hardware, and software that work hand-in-hand to accelerate speed and power for a breakthrough gaming experience. The phone is also equipped with dual symmetrical stereo speakers at both hands of the phone with a super high dynamic range up to 40 db. This means that you will hear that bass sounds well and you will enjoy a high-quality sound even without using headphones.

The Huawei Mate 20 X also comes with a world's first liquid multi-dimensional cooling system with Vapour Chamber (VC) and Graphene Film to make sure that your phone stays cool while you play for long play sessions. I didn't even talk about the new Leica triple camera at the back and many of the other great software-based features that come with it.

The Huawei Mate 20 X is definitely a different beast and it has a lot to offer, not just yet another phone with a huge display. It really packs all the things that hardcore Android users need to deliver the experience that matches its size. A beautiful and powerful phone like no other.
